The IMAP-VISION board is a single-slot VME or PCI-bus board designed for PC-based real-time image processing. It is a SIMD processor (Single Instruction, Multiple Datastream), which has been shown to be suitable for image processing. NEC has proposed an Integrated Memory Array Processor (IMAP) which enables the design of a compact and high performance system.
Details can be found at the performance information.

The IMAP-VISION card consists of 256 SIMD processors, external memory, video I/O hardware, a program memory, a control processor and communication busses.
Details can be found at the hardware specifications.

With this kind of special hardware it is important to have a good programming environment. NEC has developed such an environment which includes a high-level programming language (called 1DC), a 1DC compiler, an IMAP-assembly language with compiler and a debugging environment.
Details can be found at the software tools.
